A Study on the Perceptions of Exhibitions and Expos During the COVID-19 Pandemic - Social Big Data Analysis

Sang-Hyeon Park

This study analyzed the perceptions of exhibitions and expos in the era of COVID-19 based on significant social data. Starting from January 2020, when COVID-19 first occurred in Korea, three six-month periods were compared. To summarize the results of the Internet Search Volume analysis, Word Frequency analysis, 2-Gram analysis, Sentiment analysis, Centrality analysis, Network Matrix analysis, and Concor analysis, many exhibitions and expos were canceled out of fear and shock in the first period in which there was little information about COVID-19. In the second period, where people had more experience of Covid-19, only a small number of participants were allowed, or some exhibitions and expos were held online. In the third period of getting familiar with COVID-19, the exhibitions and expos were less influenced by COVID-19, people were adjusting to the new situation, and online/offline hybrid events were held. Based on the results above, this study discussed how the exhibitions and expos could cope with COVID 19 in the fourth and fifth periods.
