지식서비스산업으로서 전시회의 해외진출 동기와 방법 : 국제화 이론으로 분석한 코엑스의 베트남 전시 진출 사례
본 연구는 대한민국 전시주최자 중 최초로 해외진출 프로젝트를 시도한 코엑스의 사 례를 분석하여 해외진출의 이론적 동기와 전략적 접근방법을 분석하였다. 특히 전시산 업과 동일하게 지식서비스산업으로 분류되어있는 콘텐츠 산업의 국제화이론을 적용하 여 제조업, 서비스업과의 비교분석에 국한되어있던 기존 연구방향과 다른 새로운 접근 이 시도되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 전시산업과 같은 지식서비스산업의 경쟁력을 강화하 기 위해서는 정부차원의 다각도 지원을 통한 국제화 전략을 세워야한다는 것을 보여준 다. 또한 마크로(Macro)한 청사진을 근간으로 마이크로(Micro)한 진출방식을 선정하는 것이 해외진출의 중요한 요소라는 것도 밝혀냈다. 글로컬라이제이션을 통한 현지화 해 법이 중요하다는 점 역시 본 연구를 통해 부각되었다. 본 연구는 향후 전시산업 해외 투자 전략에 대한 연구에 이론적 토대를 마련해주고, 국내전시산업 분야의 중요한 정 책적 시사점을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.
Overseas expansion motivation and strategy for exhibition in the knowledge service industry : Case of COEX's entry into Vietnam using internationalization theory
By examining Coex’s overseas expansion business project, the first overseas business trial among exhibition organizers in Korea, this study attempts to analyze the theoretical motivations and strategic approaches for overseas expansion. Compared to previous studies mainly focusing on manufacturing and service industries, this study provides a new approach to applying international business theories of the contents industry to the exhibition industry in the sense that both are in the scope of the knowledge service industry. The findings show that governments’ multi-faceted support is necessary to enhance the competitiveness of the knowledge service industry. Also, it is a critically successful point to develop a micro-level strategic approach by considering a macro-level blueprint. In addition, adopting a glocalization approach is essential for the success of overseas business expansion in the exhibition industry. This study provides meaningful theoretical foundations for future studies on the global expansion of exhibition businesses and the important political implications for Korea’s exhibition industry.
